Award History

The CSC, with the support of the Dean, created the "Emory College Employee of the Year" award.  This award is based on job performance, interpersonal skills, and exemplification of the "I am Emory" philosophy. The first Award was granted in the 1994.  It was created to build staff morale and feelings of staff inclusiveness.

Selection Committee Formulation

  1. The Employee of the Year (EOY) Selection Committee will consist of at least three current members of the College Staff Consortium (CSC).
  2. One of these members will be designated chair of the Selection Committee by the CSC Chair.
  3. Selection Committee tenure will not exceed two years.

Nomination Criteria

In order to be eligible for consideration, employees must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be nominated by an active employee of Emory College. The nomination should include a completed official EOY Nomination form.
  2. Be an active College employee for a continuous period of at least two years.
  3. Be a member of the general staff.
  4. Management Staff, PPAS Staff, and Emory College Faculty are not eligible for this award. The Chair of the CSC and members of the Selection Committee are also not eligible.

Selection Process

  1. Receiving Nominations - Nomination forms are to be sent via email or interoffice mail to the EOY Selection Committee Chair.  Requests for nominations will be made via email and at all CSC general meetings.  An email will be sent to all College Department Chairs and Directors in the spring semester requesting nominations.
  2. Obtaining Supervisor Approval - The EOY Selection Committee Chair sends a supervisor's response form to each nominee's supervisor. This form solicits a statement of support for the nominated employee.
  3. Rating Nomination Forms - The completed supervisor's response form is attached to the nomination and circulated to each member of the Selection Committee. The Selection Committee members objectively rate each of the seven selection criteria on the nomination form, using a scale from 0 to 3 (3 = outstanding). The nominee's average rating score from all Selection Committee members is calculated. The seven selection criteria are: (1) identify actions employee exhibits that contribute to the “I am Emory” philosophy (i.e. service to the Emory community); (2) describe employee’s attitude while performing on-the-job tasks; (3) provide examples of how employee has provided workable ideas or plans which benefited the department; (4) does the employee consistently demonstrate a professional manner through attitude and appearance while on the job?  how?; (5) describe how employee interacts with staff faculty and students; (6) has employee volunteered for extra duties and how has this helped the department? (7) other comments regarding the nominee’s creativity, initiative, and leadership skills would be appreciated.
  4. Selecting the Recipient - The Selection Committee meets two to three times a year to process nominations and to select an award recipient. Prior to the meeting, the Chair prepares a list of each active nominee, including their name, department, and rating score. Selection Committee members review nominations, supervisor's comments, and rating scores. The actual selection is usually made in May by consensus of the Selection Committee.
